There have been some very high profile hacks in the news lately. Some of these have even been hacks of security vendors themselves, from Microsoft to FireEye, but perhaps one of the most disturbing was the recent SolarWinds hack that we are just starting to come to grips with. In 2008, Veritas employees Jaspreet Singh and Milind Borate got together to create the data protection company Druva. Fun Fact: In Sanskrit, "Druva" translates to "North Star".
For years they built the business around endpoint data protection, but the product evolved over into a more enterprise focused cloud data management company. Last year they completed a series E for $130M with a valuation north of a billion dollars.

As many of you may know, in my past life I was a CTO of a company that built high security mission critical data center facilities as well as owing and operating data center facilities.
I often talk with clients who are struggling with choosing data center space, so I wanted to give you a few tips when you are on the market looking. I have seen companies make a lot of mistakes over the years.
I am back from AWS Re:Invent in Las Vegas, and it was quite spectacular. Estimates of attendance put it over 60,000 with some putting attendance at 65,000. It was a jam packed show, and I am working to put together a complete overview of the event, but until I get that done, I wanted to share some of the interviews I did while at the show to whet your appetite.
A lot of the show floor was taken up by NetApp itself. The show floor was divided into different sections. Some for the Partner community, some focusing on their products and some focusing on specific use cases. And there were areas devoted to play and areas to relax.
Like other shows this year, there has been a focus on Social Media, which mostly involves tracking Twitter feeds talking about the company and show. I probably need to get plugged in with these folk a bit more.
Every time I go to a website these days, I always have to click on that, "I agree to using cookies",” button. It is fairly silly as pretty much every site I have gone to for the last ten years has used cookies. I would be shocked if I got a pop up that said, “this site doesn’t use any cookies at all,” because then I would be wondering, how do they pull that off? This behavior is being driven by attempts to conform to GDPR requirements.
