When Sandesh and I are talking with startups, they typically lack a critical piece in their path to success, someone to drive company culture and vision and to communicate that with both employees and customers. This is usually when you hear the phrase, “You just need someone like Hat, “ or, “If we only had Hat.” The Hat everyone is talking about is David Hatfield, co-CEO of the cloud security platform Lacework, which just raised and absolutely stunning $1.3B with an $8.3B valuation.
I have found some amazing content on TikTok, and in particular, I love the science and tech content that I have come across. This is where I found today’s guest. She focuses on AI and the ethics of AI and her TikTok channel is blowing up.
We have all had the dream that we could live in a world of automation, like George Jetson, just pushing a button. That dream has been slow to arrive, but now we are seeing the rise of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Assistants. Companies that specialize in automating the mundane, and not so mundane task of people, have finally arrive to help drag us all into the future.

Today we are talking security with Vectra (AI)’s CEO Hitesh Sheth. Vectra is a leader in the threat detection and response market. They have raised over $350 million and are definitely a Unicorn, and possibly a decacorn. Hitesh has worked with a who’s who of tech companies from Oracle to Cisco and Aruba, so he has a lot of history with this space. Really excited to hear about Vectra.
I remember watching the Jetsons when I was a kid. The promise of pushing a button and letting machines do the work was the future cartoons promised me.
It was a young child’s vision of the future, but that vision isn’t that far from reality.

So many companies have been told by their auditors to segment their systems, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Zero trust is talked about a lot, but few companies have made it work.
Today we are talking with SentinelOne. Their product faired better than most against the SolarWinds attack. To quote their site, “SentinelLabs, the research division of SentinelOne, has confirmed that devices with SentinelOne agents deployed were excluded from the SUNBURST attack from an early stage, even before any communication with a malicious C2. Technical analysis confirmed that SUNBURST was unable to disable or bypass SentinelOne in any environment.” I’ll let that sink in for a second.

John Thompson started off his career at IBM back in the 70s as a salesman. He rose through the ranks to become General Manager of IBM Americas, but after 28 years at IBM in 1999 he was lured away to become CEO of Symantec building it into a true enterprise focused company. In 2014, John Stepped into the role of Chairman of the Board of Microsoft Corporation following Bill Gates’ departure. John has been an active investor and in 2018 he became a partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners and has put together a portfolio of truly impressive companies. One of those companies is the cyber security company Confluera, which we are really excited to talk to him about today.
