When Sandesh and I are talking with startups, they typically lack a critical piece in their path to success, someone to drive company culture and vision and to communicate that with both employees and customers. This is usually when you hear the phrase, “You just need someone like Hat, “ or, “If we only had Hat.” The Hat everyone is talking about is David Hatfield, co-CEO of the cloud security platform Lacework, which just raised and absolutely stunning $1.3B with an $8.3B valuation.

With the highly distributed nature of infrastructure and applications these days, the amount of data that needs to be analyzed to identify threats and compromises is sometimes the biggest hurdle that security teams face. I want to highlight a YouTuber you may or may not know about, Jim Browning. He has a very successful channel with 3.4 million subscribers where he reverse hacks some of these tech support scam call centers that bilk money out of vulnerable people.
In July, Jim ended up getting scammed into deleting his channel. This is not an unsophisticated individual. This is someone who is constantly on the lookout for scams, and is acutely aware of the way that they work. But, everyone can get complacent, and some scams are better crafted than others.In this case, the attacker utilized Google’s own domain to fool Jim.

So many companies have been told by their auditors to segment their systems, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing. Zero trust is talked about a lot, but few companies have made it work.
With the infrastructure sprawl that has been accelerated by the pandemic, many companies are flying blind without the necessary visibility into their assets. Over the past few years, one company has emerged and grown to be a dominant player. Today we are going to talk to the big dog in the monitoring space, Datadog.
Today we are talking with SentinelOne. Their product faired better than most against the SolarWinds attack. To quote their site, “SentinelLabs, the research division of SentinelOne, has confirmed that devices with SentinelOne agents deployed were excluded from the SUNBURST attack from an early stage, even before any communication with a malicious C2. Technical analysis confirmed that SUNBURST was unable to disable or bypass SentinelOne in any environment.” I’ll let that sink in for a second.
