Doing the Right Thing - B-Corps With Tim Frick - #55

It seems like every day we see headlines about some public company behaving badly. Whether it is environmental disasters, abuse of workers, or just plain theft, companies often don’t have an overarching mission to do good. This shouldn’t be a surprise, because the main job description for the CEO of a public company is to maximize shareholder profits.

Today we have with us Molly Presley who runs global product marketing for Qumulo to tell us the story of Qumulo and where they are headed.

The Chasm

I want to talk about Everett Rogers

Everett Rogers was a communications studies professor, and in 1962 he published a book titled Diffusion of Innovations. This book talks about how innovation spreads through a community of people by diffusion.

This work grew out of the work sociologists and anthropologists from the late 19th and early 20th century did around agricultural technology. In particular around how farmers adopted hybrid seed technologies.

SXSW 2019 Interview with BYGmusic

One of the big themes at SXSW this year was the importance of Influencers, and in particular Micro-Influencers. BygMusic is a company founder by Krish Sharma, a Grammy winner, and Mike Alden. The idea is to source bands with a following and connect them to advertisers who see value in their fan base. This helps the Marketers reach audiences that have been challenging to access and it gives musicians a way to monetize their music.
