Many people are familiar with the street art of Banksy, but all over the world, artists are using the urban landscape as a public gallery. Detroit has used it as way to fight back urban blight and create a real draw for tourists.

Metaverse - Is it the end, or the beginning

Meta Verse

Not meta in the sense of self reference, and not a verse in the sense of epic, lyrical poetry.

Rather Meta in the sense of greater or transcendent and verse as in universe. However, since the metaverse exists within the known universe it logically can not be greater than that which contains it.

Which is an apt description because, in the end, it is merely the illusion of infinite space, time and possibility.

#26: How to Succeed with Weed - Interview with Cannabis Entrepreneur Zachary Zises

These days, everyone is feeling the stress of their jobs and of the industry. With so many people just dreaming of starting over, I always hear, I am going to just quit and go work in the Cannabis industry. It is the modern equivalent of saying I am going to run off and join the circus.

But the reality is more challenging. It is a highly regulated and complex industry, it is illegal on the federal level so you are at the mercy of state regulations and an ever changing political environment. Then you have to be able to produce and sell a fairly technical and complex product that requires a high level of service to the customer. Making money in the business is not as straight forward as you might think.

It is like a tailgate party in your own home. eMERGE 2020 Chicago Preview

Welcome back, I’m sure you have talk about eMERGE 2020 Chicago conference here. So what the heck is it you may be asking. This is a technology culture conference. Chicago has so many great components to make it a great technology hub, but it has failed to really take off as a technology center. I think part of that is because of the cultural aspect.

Back during the dotcom boom, Chicago had a great technology culture, but after the crash, that kind of disappeared. In the valley, the roots of technology had taken hold, but here, they weren’t as deep and they got washed away in the crash.

FUTR New Year's Resolution

As we approach the new year, I reflect on the past year. It has been incredibly busy, but satisfying. This FUTRtech website and YouTube channel have really matured, and I hope to make more videos in the new year, with more diverse content, more interviews, more cool companies and more great tech. There are also some very exciting things in the works for next year, all I will say at this point is keep April 30th open. More announcements to come in 2020.

Great new stuff from 12 for 12

My good friends over at 12 for 12 have finally posted their SXSW episode. If you look closely, you might notice someone familiar being interviewed. Even though they labeled me a Solutions Architect, I still love them. I wish I could architect a solution, but solutions to all the worlds problems. Seems like SXSW would be the place to start. They have some good interviews with Brad Spies who is the Director of Special Projects for SXSW and one of the main folks making it happen.

Can’t wait for next year!

SXSW Part 1 Activatons

I am trying to catch up on all of the video I have from SXSW. Here is part 1 which focuses on the SXSW scene and “Activations.” For those unfamiliar with the term, “Activation” this is what they call branded experiences that companies put together. They take over businesses, empty buildings, parking lots, and parks. They transform these spaces into all manner of intriguing experiences.

SXSW Wrap Up

SXSW is the most important technology conference of the year. There, I’ve said it. The problem is, very few people in IT are aware of it, and that is a shame. This is the one show of the year that not only highlights emerging technology but wraps it in context. This conference is also very international with different countries showcasing their unique companies, technologies and talents. We can get so lost in our own small world that we miss new market opportunities and technologies from around the globe.
