2019 Nutanix .NEXT Conference

Nutanix held its annual .NEXT conference this year at the Anaheim Convention Center. Word was that about 7,000 people were in attendance. There is a lot happening in the Hyperconverged Infrastructure space now as the large legacy vendors look to make a place in this market. The growth of HPE, Dell, and Cisco in this space have legitimized the HCI market and brought new interest to the products.

This year, Nutanix was highlighting several of their new technologies. Xi Frame brings enhanced VDI capabilities with reduced complexity, faster time to value, and a consistent user experience. Xi Leap expands their cloud based disaster recovery capabilities with new availability zones in Europe and the ability to provide DR services to VMWare workloads. Xi Beam extends a consistent security posture across on-prem and cloud workloads.

One of the biggest growth areas for HCI is in edge computing. With Xi IoT, Nutanix is bringing tools to meet your applications at the edge. It offers easy deployment and centralized management and can integrate your existing CI/CD pipelines.

There was a big emphasis on data protection this year, with most of the major player in attendance. Nutanix announced Mine which is being promoted as a unified secondary storage platform. Mine allows data protection applications to build upon the Nutanix HCI foundation for simplified deployment and management. There may be more to this as Nutanix is starting to position itself as the underlying platform for a range of on-prem applications.
